Socialized healthcare and the outrageously high cost of “free”

Written, directed and produced by Colin Gunn, who first grabbed our attention with IndoctriNation,“Wait Till It’s Free” is another powerful documentary that exposes how the U.S. government destroyed our healthcare system.

America’s medical industry has no free market competition whatsoever. When shopping for anything else, people have various ways to find the best value for money, but in the healthcare industry, it is impossible to check prices. Costs are intentionally obscured and consumers have no idea what they are paying for and whether or not it is good value for money.

How we got here

At the starting point, the whole healthcare pie was where it belonged-in private hands. However, in 1935, we shifted towards socialism with FDR’s “new deal,” which pushed cradle-to-grave entitlement, significantly increasing the government’s role in private lives.

This was followed by FDR’s Stabilization Act of 1942, which prevented employers from raising wages. Regardless of FDR’s intentions, this first, giant government overreach started us down the road to a ruined healthcare system, and paved the way for the following:

• 1965–President Johnson passes Medicare and Medicaid, a huge victory for those seeking government-controlled, centralized medicine.

• 1973–the journey toward Socialism continues with President Nixon’s signing of HMO laws with the hopes of controlling the rising costs that were created by government interference in the first place.

• 1986–a veto-less bill is passed by a Democrat Congress obligating hospitals to service individuals whether or not they could pay.

• 1993–President Clinton’s “HIPPA” law is passed, which is merely a huge bureaucratic burden to doctors and hospitals.

•2006–Medicare Part D was signed into law in by President George W. Bush, placing an additional 852 billion dollars of debt on Americans’ shoulders.

Obamacare–last stop before socialized healthcare

Obviously, the most detrimental and destructive program ever forced on the American public was Obamacare. Obama had the charisma and political momentum to force through this law while citizens were still excited about “hope and change.” However, here is an interesting quote by a Harvard Law School graduate who attended the school with Obama from 1988-1991, served on the Harvard Law Review with him and heard many of his philosophies:

“Obama believes in the redistribution of wealth. He does not like the fact that some people have higher income than others in this country and he is not a friend of free enterprise.” –Andrew Schlafly, Attorney General Counsel for the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons.

Although Obama marketed this socialist law as something he created to champion the “little guy,” in reality it was nothing more than a backdoor way to push us into socialized healthcare.

The government created this outrageously expensive system by tampering with what should have been left in the hands of the people, and then comes to the rescue with a controlled pricing system that was nothing more than crony capitalism. It is merely socialized healthcare with a profit taking middleman–the insurance companies.

Obama’s mandate that all citizens purchase health insurance was his way of making sure the middleman got paid. Obamacare was nothing more than the government cutting deals with big businesses, while simultaneously hurting patients and small businesses.

The failure of Obamacare is a mathematical certainty. Unfortunately, however, this creates the launching pad that proponents of socialized medicine have been attempting to build for over 70 years: the demand for a solution in the form of a single-payer system.

The government systematically ruined America’s healthcare system, nevertheless Americans will turn to that same government for a quick-fix, which can only be socialized medicine. After all, isn’t that the system used in Europe and Canada?

Let’s take a deeper look at what we are attempting to model ourselves after due to media brainwashing and our own naivety:

Socialized medicine is not the answer

In today’s age of unconstitutional “it should be free” mentality, socialism in all forms plays well for the media. Regardless of the fact that it fails 100% of the time, many still find socialism appealing, failing to realize that our government is suppose to ensure equal opportunity, not provide equal things. When they try to do the latter, it inevitably leads to shortage, and finally rationing. When rationing is applied to healthcare, the government wins and patients lose.

Liverpool Care Pathway–A nightmarish pathway to death

Gunn’s documentary takes us across the pond to the world of socialized medicine and exposes its unconscionable results. In one segment, the film follows the story of a terminal patient admitted to a London hospital with symptoms of pneumonia. London hospitals are part of the National Health Service–NHS–which is a socialized healthcare system.

Upon admission, the patient was immediately placed on the Liverpool Care Pathway–LCP. Although the name rolls easily off the tongue, as does “Obamacare,” there is no care on the Pathway, it was merely a pathway to death: even those expected to live for years with their illnesses were heavily sedated, denied food, water, and life-sustaining medicines without their permission until death occurred.

The doctor of the patient featured in this segment, Professor Patrick Pullicino, who later played a vital role in the exposure of the LCP, found that his patient was being deprived of all lifesaving measures and instead was being given high doses of morphine at regular intervals, which would have killed him in a matter of days had Pullicino not staged a rescue.

This was not an isolated incident, but rather an everyday practice of the NHS at that time and a perfect example of socialized health care. After the patient was rescued, he went on to live 14 more months with his family, despite his terminal illness. Those last 14 months would have been robbed from him under the LCP euthanasia program. In fact, he may have lived even longer if he had not once again had to enter one of England’s hospitals for a different set of symptoms, at which point he was put back on the “care” pathway and essentially euthanized, dying a few days after admission.

Sickeningly, at that time, the NHS even gave target numbers to hospitals and offered incentives for placing X number of people on the “care” pathway to assist them to an early grave. Finally, when Doctor Pullicino and several journalists began exposing the LCP for what was, a scandal erupted and the Pathway was supposedly abandoned. However, many people believe its practices are still underway, merely repackaged under another name.

In a scandal involving another NHS hospital, where 1,200 unnecessary deaths occurred in 36 months, the following quote was made by Andrew Lansley, the MP Secretary of State, on public television:

“There was a lack of care, compassion, humanity and leadership. The most basic of carestandards were not observed, fundamental rights to dignity were not respected, elderly and vulnerable patients were left unwashed, unfed, without fluids and deprived of dignity and respect.”

You’ve just had a glimpse of “free.”

The solution elbowed aside

Sadly, the capitalist system is begging and pleading to help and would indeed fix this disastrous problem through the same free market competition that makes car insurance, food, clothing, and other items affordable.

Below are some chilling prophetic words by then-actor Ronald Reagan in 1961:

“My name is Ronald Reagan and I have been asked to talk on several subjects that have to do with the problems of the day. We can say right now that we want no further encroachment on these individual liberties and freedoms and at the moment the key issue is we do not want socialized medicine. Tell them that you believe in government economy and fiscal responsibility, that you know that governments do not tax to get the money they need, but governments will always find a need for the money they get. You demand the continuation of our traditional free enterprise system. Otherwise, federal programs will invade every area of freedom we have known in this country, until one day we will awake to find that we have socialism. If you don’t do this and if I don’t do it, one of these days you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America, when men were free.”

Listen to Reagan:

Sadly, he was correct: when Obamacare fails, our government will offer their final healthcare solution: socialized medicine, death panels and “care pathways.”

Gunn’s documentary should inspire We the People to turn from our destructive path before it is too late. If remains to be seen if Americans will wake up or eventually experience first hand the extraordinarily high moral and monetary cost of “free.”

  1. Everyone online is saying OH MY GOD! Thank you Jesse. I am so glad you are back writing political stuff. There was never anyone as good before or since. Sorry to gush! I know it’s not a guy thing but sometimes ya gotta. The Randy Dude reads every TNA article you write on the radio show, did you know that? AWESOME piece!

  2. Excellent article, superb writing! More people need to hear more about socialized medicine and the dangers involved and the catastrophes caused by socialism that DOES NOT WORK! Many have died before their time because of socialized medicine! We need to hear more from you! S

  3. Usually, I peruse an article, expecting to READ it. This by comparison was an EXPERIENCE–outstanding, chilling, horrific and as paradoxical as it sounds, a must read for everyone, exempting small children. Broadt has done it again–taken the “elephant” in the room, lifted it above her head (I, uh, assume “the Rockin’ Chic” refers to a lady–my apologies, Jesse) and slammed it down so hard no one can fail to see it. The Ronald Reagan audio piece was the perfect selection, as his words seem to have been prophetic, though he was no prophet–he simply knew economics and what would happen should America continue down the road towards socialism. The Pathway scandal was brought to life by this article. The whole idea that this could happen in America is not something most people believe or WANT to believe. I applaud you, Jesse, and your assistants in the production of this sad, but fascinating slice of reality.
