It has been the realization of many that Trump is merely in this race to help Comrade Clinton win. This couldn’t have been more evident than the final debate of this abhorrent election cycle. This was his do or die moment, the point where he could have made a miraculous comeback in this race. But that is now all but lost. Instead Trump refused to learn from his mistakes, and while he did marginally better than his past performances, it was too little too late.
In recent days, Trump has been degenerating at a faster rate than Comrade Clinton, and therefore we all have an opportunity to turn this execrable mess into something positive. Both of these “top” two contenders seem to be in a race to the bottom; testing which is more corrupt, crazy or both– with Trump having the edge at the moment. We’re seeing his poll number drop faster than Bill Clinton’s pants in an Arkansas hotel room.. (sorry for That mental image).
Strangely enough, before the first debate, Mr. Trump had momentum while under the advice of Roger Ailes to keep his mouth under control and act presidential. His poll numbers were improving. The situation looked much brighter and pollsters were giving him far better odds of winning. If he had prepared for that debate and kept control of his mouth, at this point, he could have been on a winning streak. Momentum and proper messaging could’ve forced Hillary’s issue into focus, instead of his.
But he failed to prepare and jettisoned his winning strategy in favour of his old way of losing. He’s gone back to his tried and true verbal diarrhea and unforced errors. He’s displaying the classic sign of insanity as epitomised by Albert Einstein: “doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.”
Or perhaps that was the intention all along…
So with Trump’s plunge in the polls, everyone now has a golden opportunity to make a real difference. For most of this cycle, the ‘binary choice’ mantra has dominated the conversation. The clarion call to support the lesser of two evils began long before it was in actuality. Of course, this happens every election cycle with supporters of an early ‘frontrunner’ jumping to lock everyone else out of the race. (Please refer back to the aforementioned Einstein quotation on insanity.)
One only had to look past Trump’s myriad flaws and foibles to keep Comrade Clinton out of the White House. Any other choice would see her win. Thus any criticism, comment or even doubt, somehow meant you supposedly favoured her; so sayeth the Trumpers from on high. Any interest in a third-party candidate was met with jeers saying they cannot win and thus you were wasting your vote. But now with Trump on his self imposed losing streak, that has all changed. Each day polls and analysis show him well beyond any hope of winning, baring some form of miracle.
So if the man is going to lose anyway, why waste your precious vote on a lost cause? We’ve got nothing left to lose so why not vote third-party?
The best choice, if he’s on the ballot in your state, would have to be Evan McMullin. This is a decent man who has put forward a set of principles and is the polar opposite of the “top” contenders: Principles for New American Leadership
Barring that, one can vote Gary Johnson and at least make your vote count for something. The binary choice line of reasoning will yield a Hillary presidency, so why not jettison it just as Trump did with his winning strategy?
